On Friday, October 17, a group of students studying the international master’s program
EMMIR (European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations) met with Mr. Ajmal Khybari, the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Czech Republic.
The meeting took place at the UNHCR office on Wenceslaw Square, Prague, and focused on the current issuest regarding migration, refugees, and international cooperation in the field of human rights protection.
Mr. Khybari welcomed the students with a short lecture in which he introduced the mission and activities of UNHCR, followied up with an open discussion on current challenges in humanitarian work, ranging from the situation in Europe to the global issues. The debate also included Mr. Khybari’s personal experience from his work in diplomatic service and as a part of UN missions.
The meeting was organized as a part of the EMMIR program, which brings together universities from various European countries and focuses on migration studies, intercultural communication, and human rights. As a part of the event, students had the opportunity to meet a representative of a major international organization and to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of contemporary world and the importance of solidarity among different cultures.
“The EMMIR students will stay here until the end of November. The EMMIR program is an Erasmus Mundus master’s program. With the new cycle - starting in 2027 -, the program will be based at the Faculty of Education of Charles University. This will allow future teachers to work with students from all over the world during their studies. This year, 1, 160 applicants competed for 30 awarded scholarships” said Salim Murad from the Department of Civic Education (KOVF).
