The University of Ioannina recently hosted an Erasmus+ program exploring multilingualism in preschool education. The project brought together students and educators from several European universities to tackle the real challenges of linguistic and cultural diversity in the classroom.

Among the partner institutions was The Faculty of Education at Charles University, joining colleagues from across Europe to compare approaches and share experiences. The mix of different cultural and academic backgrounds made for genuinely rich discussions, particularly around inclusive education and what it looks like in practice across different countries.

The program combined online collaboration with a week of in-person activities in Ioannina, including seminars, workshops, and joint projects. It gave participants a chance to step back and reflect on how multilingualism shapes child development, and how educators can better support children growing up with more than one language.

Beyond the academic content, the experience was just as valuable on a personal level. Students built connections across borders, developed their communication and teamwork skills, and left with a broader sense of what European education can look like. For many, it was also a chance to practice and improve their language skills in a real, international setting.

The program was attended by students from the Department of Pre-Primary and Primary Education of the Faculty of Education of Charles University under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Loudová Stralczynská. For students our students, the program offered a meaningful opportunity to deepen their understanding of multilingual pedagogy and bring fresh ideas back home.
