Programmes Offered:
B.A. Programme Czech Language for Education
The three-year programme offers courses like Phonetics of Czech, Morphology of Czech, Syntax of Czech, Stylistics and Text Analysis, as well as Historical Grammar and Pragmatics of Czech. Graduates of this programme are ready/expected to continue their studies in the follow-up M.A. programme.
M.A. Programme Education of Teachers of Czech at Secondary Schools
The two-year programme focuses on courses in Didactics of Czech language and Teaching methods in general incl. practical training and internship at secondary schools cooperating with the Faculty of Education. The core programme is supplemented by courses in Language Acquisition, Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, Elements of Media Studies etc. providing the graduates with both linguistic knowledge and professional training for the career of a successful teacher.
The Elementary School Teachers Programme (incl. Programme for Kindergarten School Teachers, together with the Primary Education Dept.)
The study programme includes courses of Grammar of Contemporary Czech, Development of Czech language, Didactics of Czech as well as supplementary courses in Rhetorics, Czech as L2 and other.
Ph.D. Programme
Since 2013, the Department of Czech has offered a Ph.D. programme Didactics of Czech language.
The Department has been involved in the projects of both the basic and applied research in the area of Czech linguistics and didactics of Czech (incl. Czech as L2). Since 2009, it has been an editor of the peer-reviewed periodical Didactic Studies (registered in the international database ERIH+), it has developed wide cooperation with foreign partners (Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Belarus, USA etc.). Periodically, the Department has been an organizer of international conferences in the field of linguistics and didactics, its fellows have had an extensive record of publications incl. textbooks of Czech in all levels. The key attention has been paid to Ph.D. students.
