The Department of Czech Literature (together with the Department of Czech Language) provides training for future teachers of Czech language, more precisely literature aspects of Czech Language and Literature subject. The Study is structured (it has a Bachelor´s degree and a Master´s degree) and double-subject (students choose the combination of two teacher subjects which they study concurrently). Each academic year, several combinations are opened, e.g. Czech Language – History, Czech Language – Social Studies, Czech language – French Language and others. The Department of Czech Literature is also involved in teaching of literary disciplines for syllabus of primary teaching and preschool teaching.
The teaching activities of the Department include also the authorship of teaching materials. Employees of the Department are authors or co-authors of textbooks, reading books, worksheets, teaching aids and activities. They are also textbooks and reading books series reviewers, or they are individual textbooks and reading books reviewers.
The scientific activity of the Department is significant, both in the field of Literary Studies and the field of Methodology of Literature. The Department is involved into many domestic and foreign projects. The Department cooperates with foreign universities, particularly with Slovak and German universities, students have the opportunity of Exchange programs. After the completion of a Master´s degree, students can continue their studies and gain a degree of PhDr. In the future, we plan opening of doctoral studies (Ph.D.) in the field of Methodology of Literature in the standard length of study of 4 years.
The artistic activity of the Department is significant (fiction publications, translations of artistic literature, co-organization of literary programs, author reading at the Faculty and also outside of it, comparing literary programs and so forth) and significant is also their participation in juries of literary awards, literary competitions, literary festivals and the like.
